Symptoms Of Drug Addiction

Signs that you or a loved one may have a problem with nicotine abuse

Drug addiction is a slippery slope. Just because someone shows the illusion of functioning in society does not mean they don't have a problem. Additionally, just because something can be obtained legally, like alcohol or prescription drugs does not make them any less dangerous and addictive than illegal or synthetic drugs.

When the high wears off and the drug of choice isn't obtainable, people act irrationally - this is a desperate space for the addict. Being 'dry' or without drugs, people will resort to measures they wouldn't normally consider in their sober and sane state. The craving need of another fix is a difficult demon to handle. Never underestimate this level of desire to get high - this is not the person you normally know and logic will not typically reach a person in this state.

Symptoms of cigarette addiction

Symptoms? Let's make this one quick and easy.

Are you or someone you know smoking? Congratulations, you're addicted.

Cigarette smoking is a highly addictive activity that is the #1 preventable cause of death in the United States.

Smoking causes more deaths each year than all of these combined:

Alcohol use
Firearm-related incidents
Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)
Illegal drug use
Motor vehicle injuries

I personally smoked over 2 packs a day for over 20 years. I ignorantly sat and watched as family and friends died away from smoking related cancers, all with a cigarette in my hand.

My mother was in a coma and I sat with her for hours on end in the hospital, listening to her "death rattle" breathing with a broken heart - the only person who cared for me when I was incapable for doing it for myself was dying...

I was going to sleep next to her in a chair overnight. It was very late. I ran outside to smoke half a cigarette before I set up the chair for the overnight. I wasn't gone 3 minutes. When I returned to her room, she was gone. My weakness to smoking prevented me from being with my mother in her last moment on the planet.  AND I STILL DIDN'T QUIT!

THAT is pathetic!

Quitting smoking is no joke. I did it dozens of times up until this past time 10 years ago and counting.

Withdrawal symptoms:

Decreased heart rate
Difficulty concentrating
Increased appetite or weight gain
Irritability, frustration, anger
Trouble sleeping
Urge to smoke

Detox symptoms - upset stomach, headaches, etc.
